Some of the advantages of studying classical guitar
There are several reasons that the classical guitar is
an excellent
instrument for the beginning musician.
It's less expensive than
most other instruments, much
easier to transport from one place
to another, and
it's
not so loud that practice disturbs everyone in
the house.
Also, children are drawn to the guitar because it tends
to be the
main instrument of pop, rock, and C&W music,
so they will probably
be more interested in practicing,
and even bragging to their friends
that they are
studying guitar!
While playing classical guitar is
different from playing
pop, rock, or
country music,
the
student will learn the
fundamentals of sound
music
theory, reading music,
proper technique, and some
familiarity
with classical
music. The child who develops
this firm foundation
will
find it easy to play in almost
any genre — from blues
to jazz,
from rock to country.
Finally, once the student has mastered the basics of
music theory,
reading music, and technique involved
with playing of classical
guitar, it is easy to learn to
play a variety
of other instruments.
